The Rising of the Moon
Irish immigrant Tom Tracy has nearly everything he's ever wanted—a promising political career as an aide to the city's mayor and the love of a beautiful woman, Rachel Levka. When his lusty cousin, Padraic Starr, arrives from Galway on a mission for the Irish rebellion, Tom's world unravels.
Padraic convinces Tom to return to his homeland to join the cause and avenge his father's death. Padraic's convictions also inspire Rachel, a fervent Zionist, who finds herself powerfully drawn to him. All three set sail for Ireland loaded with guns and ammunition. On Easter Sunday 1916, love, loyalty, and history collide in violence that will change their lives forever.
This is a historical fiction novel. In this one, the time setting is around World War I. This tells the story of an Irishman who comes to Boston in search for guns for an uprising. He quickly involves his extended family in this uprising and this uprising will eventually be known as the Easter Rising. One thing I love about this author's books is I learn history while being entertained and this one was no exception. I had no idea about the Easter Rising until this novel. The characters are strong
I am sorry but I cannot stnd anymore of this drivel
I love William Martin's historical fiction. This book was first publislhed in 1987. Coming out of the Irish American household that I did...you'd think I'd know more about the Easter Rising...well, Irish history in general, and really, what I know has been pretty general...So, this is just the kind of book that then had me looking up what actually happened. I liked the characters in this book. It was interesting to read about how an Irishman dating a jewish woman was percieved. Not surprising,
I've had this book for several years and have tried to read it a few times now. I always stopped...not because I didn't like the book, but because I just lost interest in reading all together at those times. I'm glad I decided to pick it up again. It was a great and very interesting read. If you're interested in learning anything about the Easter Rising, or at least the lead up (even in the fictional world), I say give this one a go.
